Valerie Bertinelli finally speaks up about her split from ex Mike Goodnough, 5 months after news of their breakup

Valerie Bertinelli is explaining her relationship status and admiration for ex-boyfriend Mike Goodnough.

On Monday, March 3, the famous chef took to Instagram to pay respect to her boyfriend, with whom she dated for 10 months until splitting in November 2024, according to insiders.

“I met @therealhoarse in person one year ago today, and he has irreparably transformed my life for the better. “I know I am becoming a much stronger and more benevolent human as a result of meeting and spending time with him,” the Indulge cookbook author said about the professional writer.

She went on to say that she was “attracted to his writing” before they met in person. “It’s sincere, honest, witty, hilarious, sensitive, compassionate, and soulful. The way he puts words together is outrageously wonderful. Can you tell how much I admire him?” Bertinelli spoke. “And, as fate would have it, the human being in person is as heartfelt, genuine, sensitive, and caring as his writing.”

“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have met him, as well as to have had the opportunity to observe and absorb his ideas. I appreciate all of our lengthy chats, which have led me to unique and fascinating locations I would never have visited otherwise. My encounters and chats with him have given me a new perspective on life and a greater sense of care. And he’s been a significant part in helping me heal from some old childhood scars I never knew what to do with or even where to start,” she wrote, urging her fans to sign up for Goodnough’s newsletter, Hoarse Whisperings, and “receive the lovely gift of what it’s like to be in his orbit.”

She concluded the caption by saying, “Thank you, Mike; we may no longer be a couple, but you’ll always have a special place in my heart. Love you. ♥️”

The Food Network star had hinted at the separation, but this homage is her first direct statement that she and Goodnough are no longer together.

Bertinelli recently spoke with her fellow panelists on The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore and Ross Matthews, about how breakups teach each individual “how you can behave better.”

Earlier in February, she penned another frank Instagram post, admitting that she’s learned from “two failed marriages” and “fumbled the last true good man I met.” She added that such interactions taught her vital skills, including how to request an apology.

Bertinelli was married to financial planner Tom Vitale from 2011 until 2022, and she was previously married to late Van Halen vocalist Eddie Van Halen from 1981 to 2007.
