Simon couldn’t stop himself from calling him “Susan Boyle’s grandson” following a breathtaking rendition of “Sound of Silence” that left the entire audience motionless. Everything halted as soon as he opened his mouth, as if the entire planet had stopped breathing. His voice didn’t simply fill the air; it engulfed everyone, eerie and wonderful, sending chills down their spines. The judges were taken aback, the audience was captivated, and as he delivered the final note, not a single tear fell from their eyes.
I’ve mentioned it before: it’s fantastic to watch someone who looks to be truly pleasant on one of the Got Talent shows turn out to be extremely talented. Here’s a fantastic example. Tom Ball was a 23-year-old secondary school teacher from West Sussex, England, when he appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. He wanted to be a singer but didn’t tell anyone at his school that he was auditioning—he would rather not disappoint them if he didn’t perform well.

But he did really well, reaching the finals. In the meantime, he became a hero at his school, demonstrating to the students the importance of pursuing their aspirations. However, because he did not win, Tom was qualified to compete in the 2023 season of America’s Got Talent, which is an “all-stars” competition in which everyone had previously performed well on one of the Got Talent franchise series.
Tom chose to sing Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence,” which we’ve all seen on YouTube countless times. That presents a concern because certain versions, such as Disturbed’s, have become legendary. But Tom’s brave decision pays off handsomely, as the whole crowd, particularly the judges, enjoys the performance.
