A teacher was fired from a California school for mocking the American flag and promoting her own social agenda. Kristin Pitzen found the situation amusing, joking in a TikTok video that she removed the stars and stripes off her classroom walls because they made her feel “uncomfortable.”

Kristin Pitzen, a teacher at Newport Mesa School District in Orange County, filmed a now-deleted TikTok video detailing how she took the American flag from her classroom “because it made me uncomfortable.”
“I packed it away and don’t know where it is, and I haven’t found it yet,” she said, grinning into the camera.
She then stated that when the Pledge of Allegiance, a symbol of patriotism, is recited in the mornings, she advises her students to “stand if you feel like it, don’t stand if you feel like it, say the words if you want, you don’t have to say the words.”
“My class opted to stand but not utter the words. Completely fine. She chuckled uncontrollably, pointing out that her room was devoid of a flag.
Thereafter, she relates a case in which one of her pupils wondered what he should gaze at when saying the patriotic pledge because there was no American flag in the room.
Trying not to chuckle, she exclaimed, “In the meantime, I tell this kid, ‘We do have a flag in the classroom that you can pledge your allegiance to.'” And he glances around and says, ‘Oh, that one?’.”
The camera then moves to the wall, where the pride flag hangs, pushing pride. This was not the first time she pressed her agenda on her students.
Pitzen adorned her classroom with numerous flags for Pride Month in a now-deleted video.
“I pledge allegiance to the queers,” she declared in the video.
She went on to say, “I love you all very much, whether you’re out or not. You are valued. I adore you. You are enough. I support you.”. I got you.”
This banner is a symbol of freedom. The community and school board did not like or enjoy the instructor indoctrinating the students with her ideals. The video rapidly went viral and sparked outrage from many who believed Pitzen’s actions were improper and insulting to the American flag.
In response, many parents planted flags on the school’s yard, with one mother noting, “We just heard the school was short some flags, so we decided we’d help them out to show our patriotism.”
Michele Vaughn, whose son is in the military, added, “I’d like to share with her if she doesn’t know the importance of respecting the flag.” Meanwhile, the internet community was furious about Pitzen’s activities.
One netizen reminded Pitzen that the flag is a living piece of history that represents the freedom she has now, saying, “I don’t think you really get it; teach them it’s for the people who gave you the freedom and happiness you have now.”
A second comment followed: “You stand for the people who fought to keep freedom, and you don’t understand how good we have it, and you insult the flag, which stands for our country?”
“Maybe she’d like to live in Afghanistan,” said a third.
Pitzen, who has since erased all of her social media accounts, “is no longer in the classroom” since the tape was released in 2021, and the inquiry is still on.
The event sparked a debate over freedom of expression, respect for national symbols, and educators’ roles in encouraging tolerance and diversity in schools. It is unclear what further action, if any, the school system will take in reaction to the issue.
