Kenny Ortega, the choreographer, relied on Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey’s real-life relationship to improve Johnny and Baby’s on-screen chemistry.”Both of them brought so much every day,” Ortega said to People in 2017. “Sometimes it was strife, and sometimes it was love. There was something between the two of them that could not be explained. “They were human fireworks.”

Although many of the dancing moments were meticulously rehearsed and polished, one detail may surprise viewers. Do you recall the enormous lift at the end? It was never practiced. “I only did it on the day I shot it,” the actress admitted in an interview with The Guardian. “I have never rehearsed it, and I have not done it since.”

“I would never practice the lift because I was too terrified.” The day you see me do it in the film is the first time I do it,” Grey told SELF about the famed lift. She also commented, “I don’t know how all these people who re-enact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze.”
