We all get old and die eventually.
I’m not really afraid of death; I see it as something lovely and natural. On the other side, I’m frightened of growing old and being unable to care for myself.
Being entirely dependent on someone else, unable to independently use the restroom or recall your children’s names, is a daunting prospect. That is not a good way to live.
Maria was spending her dying days in a care facility. And she realized she didn’t have long to live.
Maria had spent her whole life as a singing and piano instructor, and she missed being around music.
But she was fortunate since one of her former classmates worked at her care facility in Austinburg, Ohio.
She had been tutoring Joshua Woodard since he was nine years old, so they had a deep understanding of each other.
Maria’s greatest dream was to hear the song “How Great Thou Art” before she died.
Of course, Joshua was ready to grant Maria’s last desire.
He delivered a sincere version of Maria’s favorite song, using the words from his phone.
Even better, it turns out Joshua has known Mary since he was nine years old.
“Hospice workers are angels, but this hospice aide is special,” said Marti Adkins Redmond.
“Mary used to teach voice and piano, and Joshua Woodard was one of her students as a child. Hospice workers are special individuals!
Maria’s sister-in-law caught the poignant event on film:
Unfortunately, Maria is no longer with us, which makes this entire video even more touching.
