Despite the mayhem, one unexpected and happy story emerged: Diana sought sanctuary at a ranch in Colorado, courtesy of actor Kurt Russell and his longtime companion Goldie Hawn.

It all began in 1991, when Kurt Russell met Princess Diana at the London premiere of his film Backdraft. The encounter, which would transform Diana’s life in an unforeseen way, occurred during a royal screening, and Kurt acknowledges it was a bizarre experience.

“I met her—with Prince Charles—at a Backdraft movie screening. They were performing a royal thing. I was in between the two, which was intriguing at the time!” Kurt spoke on The Project, an Australian chat program, in 2016.

Back in the early 1990s, Diana and Charles were far from the picture-perfect couple they previously were; their relationship was already showing symptoms of strain.

What followed, however, demonstrated how friendship and compassion could thrive even in the most luxurious of environments.

Diana confessed to Kurt about how much strain she felt from the continual media attention. Diana was not just a regal figure, but also a mother who struggled to maintain her own identity amidst constant harassment.
