Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s relationship was strained during the singer’s most recent venture, but a source claims her fiancé was there for her.
An insider tells PEOPLE, “Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album,” 143, which came out in September. Orlando was understanding, but it created some strain.”
A second source adds that Perry, who is presently on her “Lifetimes” globe tour, was also upset with some of the tour evaluations. It has caused tension in their relationship.”
Despite any past unfavorable reviews, it has had no effect on the overseas concerts, and the tour sold out three nights in Mexico, prompting Perry to add an additional date. The current Australian leg has likewise sold out. She then brings the act to the United States, starting with a date in Denver on July 10.
Perry stated in a statement that her objective for her most recent album, which is being supported by the Lifetimes tour, was to produce “a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message.” (The album title 143 is an abbreviation for “I love you” in pager communication.)
(Perry and Bloom’s representatives did not immediately answer PEOPLE’s request for comment on the couple’s tough time.)
However, the “Teenage Dream” singer has taken the criticism in stride. In February, she spoke with PEOPLE about the harsh feedback she received on her album 143. “Don’t read it if it’s excellent. You shouldn’t read it when it’s bad,” she said.
Perry, 40, said, “My therapist said something that really changed my life.” What others think of you is none of your concern. It is what you believe about yourself.
She also stated that she developed the album as a result of “a significant change in my life when I became a mother, and I really tapped into that feminine divine energy.” The sentiments are joyous. “They are about love.”
Perry embarked on her Lifetime Tour in April, little more than a month after flying on Jeff Bezos’ all-female Blue Origin trip, which was criticized for its high cost and claimed environmental damage.
Perry appeared to address the issue on the first night of the Lifetimes Tour, addressing the audience in Mexico City, “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?”
She then responded to the cruel remarks in an Instagram post.
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, because I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” the singer said in a post on Tuesday, April 29.
Perry and Bloom, 48, have been dating for over a decade. They got engaged in February 2019 and will have their baby, Daisy Dove, in August 2020.
