Adrien Brody addresses reaction following scandalous kiss with Halle Berry on stage at the Oscars

Adrien Brody has spoken out about his infamous kiss with Halle Berry on stage at the Oscars more than 20 years ago.

The 51-year-old actor made headlines in 2003 when he grabbed Catwoman into a liplock while accepting his Best Actor Oscar.

Check out this odd moment:

Brody’s smooch with Berry overshadowed his own great moment with the stunt, as it became the talk of the town rather than the fact that he had won the coveted category.

He was 29 years old when he won the Best Actor prize for his portrayal of Holocaust survivor Władysław Szpilman in The Pianist, making him the youngest ever.

It was well earned, since the New Yorker shed 30 pounds, gave up his apartment, discarded his vehicle, and took four hours of piano lessons every day to polish his personality.

However, prior to delivering a passionate speech about Roman Polanski’s World War II film, Brody seemed to abandon his Oscar victory to pursue Berry.

The Darjeeling Limited star gleefully strolled onto the stage after defeating Michael Caine, Jack Nicholson, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Nicolas Cage for Best Star.

Instead of snatching Berry’s trophy and celebrating, Brody pulled her into a passionate hug in front of the star-studded audience.

The former model, who was 37 at the time, was presenting the award after winning Best Actress for Monster’s Ball in 2002 and was genuinely surprised by the snub.

As he began his speech from the stage, Brody turned to face her and quipped, “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag.”

The actor also reenacted the on-stage kiss with Queen Latifah at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, which were held barely two months later.

In recent years, Brody has faced significant criticism for kissing someone without their consent, a prank he has now addressed in a new interview with Variety.

“We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing,” the Oscar winner, who previously faced criticism for a controversial Saturday Night Live skit in 2003, added.

“And I never intend to make anyone feel bad about anything I do, have done, or would have done.”

Berry previously revealed the unsettling occurrence during an interview on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in 2017.

She stated, “I was like, ‘What the f**k is happening right now?’ That is what was on my mind.”

Berry stated she gave Brody a pass since she understood how weird he felt after winning Best Actor.

“Last year, I felt a sense of separation from your body,” she confided in me. “I simply accepted it.”

Brody did tell the audience at the 2003 Oscars that he almost didn’t recognize his own name when it was given out, which lends credence to Berry’s claim that he was quite frightened.

Despite the hoopla surrounding their kiss 22 years ago, the couple appears to be on favorable terms these days.

Berry recently praised the actor after he announced that he has been nominated for Best Actor at this year’s Oscars.

Brody revealed in an Instagram post that he was nominated for the award because of his part in The Brutalist as Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor László Tóth.

He commented, “Thank you to the Golden Globes voters for this truly extraordinary honor.” My family and I will never forget this amazing occasion.

“And to @Thombrowne for making me look like a winner on this special night, @GoldenGlobes #2025.”

Berry then commented, “Congratulations, my friend. “You are truly unique!”

Let’s just hope she doesn’t have to dust off her presenting talents to reveal this year’s Best Actor on March 3rd.
