After being barred from singing about Jesus, Vince Gill walks on stage and shouts out…

Vince Gill, a country music musician, has published over 20 albums and garnered several accolades, including more Grammy Awards than any other male country performer.

While playing with the country rock band Pure Prairie League in 1979, Gill gained notoriety; the Country Music Hall of Fame inducted him in 2007.

Now, forty years later, Gill is still in high demand as a performer, having recently shared the Grand Ole Opry stage with Little Big Town.

But while he was performing, something amazing happened. As a devout Christian, Gill faced a challenge despite the restriction on singing religious music, particularly those featuring Jesus.

Gill, unmoved, chose to creatively defy the directive. He opted to sing “Why Me Lord,” a soul-stirring ballad penned by Kris Kristofferson in 1972 and famously sung by Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, rather than abandoning his religion.

The audience’s standing ovation demonstrated how strong Gill’s performance had been. His fortitude in being true to his principles and creative identity was on full show.

Gill is entitled to make his own decisions in the Country Music Hall of Fame!
