The co-host of “CBS Mornings” acknowledged that there is “never any excuse” for drunk driving, but she also had some kind things to say about the pop artist.
Gayle King has been a prominent supporter of Justin Timberlake as he deals with the fallout from his arrest on suspicion of driving while drunk on Tuesday.
King defended Timberlake on Wednesday’s “CBS Mornings” show, referring to the pop singer as a “really, really great guy” who just happened to make a poor choice.
“This is an error,” she declared. “Nobody knows it better than he does, I bet.”The television journalist said that driving while intoxicated is “never an excuse,” but she also said that Timberlake was “not an irresponsible person.”She remarked, “He’s not careless or reckless.” This is obviously not a beneficial thing. Just before one in the morning on Tuesday, authorities brought Timberlake into jail in Sag Harbor, a community on Long Island, New York. According to reports, an officer witnessed the singer’s BMW SUV run a stop sign and fail to stay in his lane.
The Sag Harbor Police Department released a statement following the arrest, stating that the officer found Timberlake “operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition” after conducting a traffic stop.
According to the officer, Timberlake had “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and his breath had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” when he was arrested, according to court records that CNN was able to access.
In a statement to HuffPost, Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke Jr., said he intends to “vigorously defend” the musician and that “[Timberlake] will have a lot to say at the appropriate time.”
The singer, who is now on a global tour, is at a crossroads in his career. News of Timberlake’s arrest broke recently. In March, Timberlake released his first album in six years, “Everything I Thought It Was,” to mixed reviews.

After their breakup in 2002, the media’s unfair treatment of Timberlake’s ex-girlfriends Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, who came under fire for her contentious wardrobe malfunction during her and Timberlake’s 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, has also damaged Timberlake’s public image.
