The Olympian was in one of seven automobiles hit by an out-of-control truck plowing through a work zone in Melancthon Township, Canada.
The vehicle apparently did not slow down in time, crashing into the line of automobiles.
Paul’s little kid was in the rear of the car and amazingly survived the collision after being taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Unfortunately, Paul died at the site.

Three individuals are alleged to have been hurt in the incident, including a 67-year-old man who is being treated at a Toronto-area trauma clinic for critical injuries.
Paul rose to prominence during the 2014 Olympics in Russia, finishing 18th in the mixed ice dance event with her partner and husband, Mitchell Islam.
They began skating together in 2009 and won Canada’s junior ice dance title the following year.
Following that, they won a silver medal at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championship in 2010.
Before retiring in 2016, Paul and Islam won many bronze medals at the Canadian national championships.
The couple married in 2021 and welcomed their first child, Charlie, in 2022.
Since the awful news broke, tributes have been flooding in, with Skate Canada stating, “During her illustrious career, Alexandra and partner Mitchell Islam won multiple international medals, claimed three Canadian Championship medals, and competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.”
Her warmth and kindness, which won her the hearts of both coaches and fans, were equal to her commitment to excellence.

Paul’s pals have already put up a GoFundMe page to support Charlie and Mitch during this difficult period.”
“As a Canadian success story tragically cut short, Alex will be remembered as a passionate, determined young lady who could illuminate any room she entered,” friends stated on the fundraising website about Paul.
“Alex was not only kind, educated, witty, and determined; she was also a fixture in the international figure skating community, representing Canada at the Olympics. Above all, Alex will be remembered as Charlie’s loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother.”
