Amy Slaton, a TLC celebrity, gets engaged!
During the Tuesday, May 13 episode of 1000-Lb. Sisters, it was revealed that Slaton’s boyfriend, Brian Lovvorn, proposed in the padded room of Henderson Haunts’ haunted home in Henderson, Kentucky, during the winter of 2024. Tammy and Misty, Slaton’s sisters, saw the memorable event.
“Originally, he slipped a green apple Ring Pop on my finger while I was asleep, about two weeks into our relationship,” Slaton, who is 37, tells PEOPLE. “I was shocked at first, and I said yes, but only if the real proposal was in a haunted house on Halloween.”
Although Slaton was partly kidding, Lovvorn made sure to grant her creepy desire after only five months of dating. Even more unconventional than Slaton’s engagement venue is her gothic ring. Instead of a diamond, her silver band has two skeletal hands forming a heart.

“He said something about, ‘My love for you is crazy; it’s scary how compatible we are,'” Slaton recalls Lovvorn’s proposition. “This is similar to what our matching tattoos express: ‘Scary love.'”
Tammy, 38, was concerned about her younger sister’s sudden engagement. “She really felt like we were rushing it,” Slaton adds. The hurried nature of her wedding mirrors that of her engagement.
Slaton is relieved that her engagement “will be over with soon.” She and her fiancé are already planning a “small, quaint” wedding. They’ve “always wanted to get married on Halloween,” but nonetheless are “still figuring out the wedding party situation,” so they “need to find a venue, dress, flowers, pretty much everything!”
“I’ll be able to call him my husband and get to spend the rest of my life with him,” Slaton tells me. “Our engagement life may be short, but our marriage will last an eternity!”
The bride-to-be knows just what she wants to wear on her wedding day.

“My vision for the dress is white with black lines, a corset with a princess poof,” according to her. “Brian wants me to have pink hair for the wedding, and I want to have a Victorian-style updo.”
The pair first met while attending a park performance. Slaton knew Lovvorn was “the one” when he met her kids, Gage Deon, four, and Glenn Allen, two, whom she shares with ex-husband Michael Halterman.
“They just took to him naturally; he just fit perfectly in our family,” she recalls. “He fits perfectly in the life I’ve always wanted.”
Slaton admires Lovvorn’s “good” relationship with her children.

“He’s so patient and understanding and really has a heart of gold,” she tells me.
Slaton is most excited to watch her family “grow and thrive” together in the future, “as the boys grow up and we get older together.”
“He promised me 55 years; he’ll be 106 when he dies!” Slaton explains.
