Schwarzenegger has two grandchildren, Eloise and Lyla, via his daughter Katherine.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed the unique moniker that his grandchildren have given him.
During an interview with PEOPLE about his new motivational book Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life (available Oct. 10), the actor, 76, revealed what his two grandchildren call him. Schwarzenegger has two grandchildren, Eloise Christina, 16 months, and Lyla Maria, three.
When questioned about the name he gives his grandchildren, the former governor of California responds, “Opa,” which is German for grandpa.
“It’s just such a fun thing to do because it’s kind of like I didn’t know how good I would be at being a grandfather, but I have the animals, so it’s an easy thing,” he told people.

When Katherine and her girls arrive, Schwarzenegger remarks, “The first thing Lyla would say is, ‘Where’s Cherry?’ “That’s my small puppy. ‘Cherry’s waiting for you,’ I say. ‘Mommy, can we go see Opa and Cherry?’ ‘Sure, we’ll go tomorrow.’ So they come up and say, ‘Cherry, Cherry, Cherry,’ and she sits with Cherry in her lap.”
Aside from Cherry, Schwarzenegger also owns a pet pig named Schnelly, a little horse named Whiskey, and a miniature donkey named Lulu at home.
“Then I get the pig around, and she likes the pig and feeds the pig,” the pleased grandfather continued. “Then I asked, ‘Do you want to come out?’ ” Let’s go view the horses in the stable. ‘ Okay, then take my hand, and we’ll stroll out to the fields, where she’ll go to the stables and see the horses.”

The grandpa and granddaughter pair not only like animals, but they also enjoy the cookies he bakes for his horses and dogs. ” Lyla would go up to the counter and ask, ‘Can I have a cookie?'” But these aren’t your average chocolate chip cookies. “Lulu and Whiskey eat the cookie,” he says, referring to his two horses.
“So it’s a particular oatmeal recipe.” It has no sugar and only honey. And we only create them for the horses and dogs that we adore,” he adds.
This isn’t the first time Schwarzenegger has spoken out about his granddaughter’s attachment to his animals. The actor confessed in June at An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger that he had no clue his grandchildren would inherit his passion for animals.
“I never thought this was going to be the additional kind of joy they have because I just love animals because I grew up on a farm in Austria and I always enjoyed animals,” he stated.
“But I mean, my grandkids really loved it,” he said. “And it gives me another way of having them come to the house on a regular basis. “Having them have fun and then feeding them”
