At the age of 73, Bill Nighy clarifies his health status after keen-eyed fans spot a detail on his hands in the photo

Bill Nighy, a legendary actor recognizable to most of our readers from various films, has lived with a condition known as Dupuytren’s contracture for almost his entire life. At 73 years old, Nighy’s talent and on-screen presence are undeniable, but his hands, specifically his pinky and ring fingers, often attract attention as well. These fingers are almost perpetually curled together due to the abnormal thickening of connective tissue in the hand, a characteristic feature of Dupuytren’s contracture.

Though some young actors have mistaken it for a technique employed in his acting, Nighy has clarified that it’s a result of his condition. This condition has affected him since his 20s and has progressively worsened over time. He has described it as having a “spooky handshake” and mentioned that his last two fingers on each hand are permanently bent against the palms.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Dupuytren’s contracture at present, and while surgery can provide symptom relief and slow down its progression, it doesn’t stop the condition entirely. According to reports, this condition is more common among individuals of northern European descent, males, and those with a family history of the condition.

Despite his condition, Bill Nighy continues to captivate audiences with his performances on the big screen. Have you ever noticed his hands? Let us know in the comments.
