Bill Gates’ daughter, Phoebe, has revealed one of the most challenging aspects of being a “nepo baby” in her father’s wealth and fame.
The creator of Microsoft is one of the world’s wealthiest people, having dominated the technology sector.
Phoebe, Gates’ 22-year-old daughter, has built a reputation for herself on TikTok, gaining millions of followers and even launching her podcast.
Phoebe hosts Tilted Burnouts alongside business partner Sophia Kianni, and the two debate a range of issues with their fans.
Phoebe admitted in the first episode of her new podcast that she felt such a need to prove herself’ in the infamous ‘nepo baby’ moniker.
“I felt like I had so much privilege. “I’m a nepo baby,” she stated, adding that her ‘insecurity’ had grown as a result of being labeled as such.
Phoebe has said that the worst part of being in the public eye is the false ideas people have about her life, family, and dad.
She told The Information that the biggest disadvantage of publishing on the social networking platform was misconceptions and conspiracy theories.’
“I’m fairly realistic that people will start following me because of my family name.” And people probably find it amusing to see my dad acting silly and playing Boxbollen,” Phoebe added.
“But once people follow me, they remain around, and I believe some of it is due to the topics I talk about, such as women’s health. And, honestly, TikTok is entertaining.”
Phoebe has risen to prominence in the fashion industry after finishing her degree in human biology last year.
Phoebe’s mother, Melinda French Gates, inspired her to realize she could establish a name for herself after witnessing Stella McCartney’s success in her own right, although she is the daughter of Beatles icon Sir Paul.
Phoebe told WWD, “She and my mom are truly excellent friends. Even when I was a child, she would give me gifts and cards, which made me pleased. I’ve been begging my mother for years to let me meet her.
“I felt very connected to her [Stella]. I feel like because she’s been able to use the platform she had, because of who her dad is, and then she took that, and instead of being like, ‘Oh, people define me by this,’ she took it, and she was like, ‘OK, I have this immense privilege; now I’m going to use it to leverage something.'”
