Joy Reid has come out for the first time since leaving MSNBC, offering an honest insight on the feelings she has had since the end of her primetime show, The ReidOut.

During an appearance on the Win With Black Women podcast, Reid explained that she has experienced a range of emotions, including annoyance, disappointment, and even guilt over the impact on her team.

“I’ve been through every emotion over the past several days,” she said, revealing that the loss of her program was tough not just for her but also for the team that worked with her. “I’m feeling guilt, you know, that I let my team lose their jobs.”

Despite her initial astonishment, Reid expressed thanks for the words of support she got from viewers and coworkers. While she recognized the grief of leaving MSNBC, she is pleased with her work on The ReidOut, thinking that it had a significant influence.

Reid, who has presented The ReidOut since 2020, uses the platform to discuss important social and political topics such as racial justice, immigration, and American politics. She discussed the show’s relevance and the themes it addressed, underlining that she had no regrets about speaking up on vital causes.

“I don’t regret defending those things, as they are of God,” she said, referring to topics she often discussed, like the ongoing violence in Gaza.

Her departure is part of a larger shakeup at MSNBC, as the network reorganizes its weekday and weekend programming. Starting in April, The Weekend ensemble, which includes Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, will take over the 7 p.m. time slot. The trio will host the show from Tuesday to Friday, with Menendez also leading a two-hour block from 7 to 9 p.m. on Mondays. Notably, Menendez will now be the network’s first Latina woman to headline a primetime cable news program.

During the audio conversation, Reid showed immense satisfaction in the team she put together for The ReidOut, emphasizing their diversity and common dedication to effective journalism. “We were deliberate. “I was deliberate in assembling my team,” she remarked, recognizing the contributions of individuals who helped bring the play to life.

She also recognized other Black female anchors who had previously departed MSNBC, such as Melissa Harris-Perry and Tiffany Cross, emphasizing the obstacles that minority voices confront in cable news.

Looking Forward with gratitude.

Reid is still absorbing the changes, but she has chosen to focus on thankfulness rather than disappointment. Fighting back tears, she said how the enormous support from fans and colleagues had given her a sense of calm. “Where I really land and where I’ve landed today is just gratitude,” she told me.

Her future intentions are unknown, but considering her extensive history in journalism and media, it’s probable that she’ll continue to use her voice and platform in novel ways. As she moves away from MSNBC, she is pleased with her accomplishments and optimistic about the future.

Reid’s retirement marks the end of an era, leaving a legacy of strong, unabashed journalism and a commitment to speaking truth to power. Wherever she goes next, her voice will undoubtedly continue to impact the media and politics.
