The King, formerly recognized as the Prince of Wales, assumed the throne following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. However, the King’s recent weeks have been marked by health challenges, including treatment for an enlarged prostate.
After a brief stay at the London Clinic, where he underwent a corrective procedure for the benign condition, the King was discharged on January 29. Buckingham Palace announced that he might take up to a month off from public duties to recover.
In a statement, the Palace expressed gratitude for the medical team’s support and the well-wishes received. However, a recent update from the Royal Family revealed that the King has been diagnosed with a form of cancer during the hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.

The Palace stated, “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.” Despite this, the King will continue with state business and official paperwork.
Expressing gratitude for the swift medical intervention, the statement affirmed the King’s positive outlook on his treatment, with a hopeful return to full public duty as soon as possible. The decision to share the diagnosis was made to prevent speculation and contribute to public understanding of cancer’s impact globally.
In response to the news, the UK Prime Minister conveyed well wishes for the King’s recovery in a statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time, and I know the whole country will be wishing him well.”
