Bulldog puppy ‘saved owner’s life’ by gnawing his toe to the bone while he was sleeping

If you’ve ever had a puppy, you know they chew anything they can get their paws on, but it turns out one pup’s mischievous behavior saved his owner’s life.

David Lindsay adores his bulldog, Harley, and this floppy-eared companion is quite harmless.

That is until you discover what he did while David slept.
When he was taking a little snooze on the couch, his dog decided to attack.

He remembered: “I was asleep on the couch when my wife walked in and shouted, ‘Dave, the puppy’s chewing your toe!'”

“My puppy had nearly eaten my big toe off! It nibbled down to the bone, cracking it.”

Most people would wake up if a dog began digging its fangs into their foot, but the fact that David didn’t notice is very troubling.

“Because of all this, I discovered that my foot is completely numb; I can’t feel anything,” David told me.

The father of five from the UK rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital after waking up to find his toe in ruins and received intravenous antibiotics to stop the dog bite’s infection from spreading to his bone.

Doctors also performed CT scans on David’s shattered toe and revealed that he had two blocked arteries, which explains why he couldn’t feel anything.

The findings indicated that David’s entire leg may have required amputation if the blood flow had not been restored.

Harley’s choice to chow down on his foot allowed medics to go to work and mend it before things went out of control.
