Challenging beauty standards: 31-year-old teacher boldly embraces natural eyebrows and facial hair

A 31-year-old Danish woman chooses not to shave her mustache as a means to maintain clarity of thought. Eldina Jaganjac, a teacher in Copenhagen, has grown increasingly frustrated with societal, particularly male, expectations regarding women’s grooming practices, particularly concerning hair removal.

In March 2020, at the age of 31, Eldina decided to stop shaving her mustache after realizing that she feels equally feminine with facial hair. Despite society’s emphasis on physical appearance, she fully accepts herself as she is. Eldina noticed that men reacted differently to her with facial hair, often seeming taken aback or uncomfortable. She believes that her facial hair acts as a deterrent to individuals she prefers to keep at a distance.

Interestingly, Eldina sees her monobrow and facial hair as a filter, deterring more “conservative” suitors and allowing her to attract men who appreciate her personality rather than her appearance.

Reflecting on her journey, Eldina expressed that she used to feel limited by societal standards of beauty. However, she now embraces her natural appearance, recognizing that men face fewer expectations regarding grooming compared to women. She no longer feels compelled to conform to societal norms and instead focuses on her personal goals and responsibilities.

Initially, Eldina experienced discomfort with her decision, particularly in response to negative reactions from others. However, she has since adopted a mindset of indifference towards strangers’ opinions, prioritizing her own well-being and self-acceptance.
