Christina Applegate says her 14-year-old daughter, Sadie, told her she misses ‘who you were before’ and shared some heartbreaking details…

Christina Applegate is sharing details of a painful talk she had with her daughter.

While participating in Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, the 53-year-old Dead to Me actress revealed that she just discussed her multiple sclerosis with her 14-year-old daughter, Sadie, who Applegate was diagnosed with in 2021.

“I don’t get up in the morning with that; I get up because of her,” Applegate says of her daughter Sadie, whom she shares with husband Martyn LeNoble. “She’s the reason I’m still here and trying.”

“But she did say to me, and we got into a big fight the other day, and I’m sorry, Sadie, but it needs to be said.” “She said, ‘I missed who you were before you got sick,'” the actress remembers. “That’s like a dagger to the heart, because I miss who I was before I became sick. Thank you very much.

Over the years, Applegate has been open about how tough life with MS has been. She spoke on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast in May and said that her condition has caused her to seldom leave the house.

“If people saw what my life was like daily, they would be unable to accomplish it. Because I am sometimes unable to do it.” It’s extremely difficult,” she explained at the time.

“I don’t really leave the house anymore,” Applegate informed O’Brien.

Applegate was diagnosed with MS in 2021. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the degenerative condition affects myelin, the protective covering around nerves in your central nervous system. It may induce muscular weakness, visual abnormalities, numbness, and memory problems.

Last March, Applegate spoke with PEOPLE about how MS has affected her parenting, explaining that her disease means she can’t always be the mom she wants to be for Sadie.

“She’s had to experience the loss of her mother in the same way that I was a mother to her,” Applegate told PEOPLE. “I dance with her every day. I pick her up from school every day. Working at her school’s library. Being present outside of the house, away from my bed. She doesn’t notice those things anymore. This is a loss for her as well. We’re both learning as we go along.”

The actress went on to claim that there are instances when her symptoms are so severe that she is unable to be present.

“She’ll come into the room, and if she sees that I’m lying on my side, she knows she can’t ask me to do anything,” said Applegate, who was diagnosed with MS while filming her Netflix show Dead to Me. “And it breaks me. Because I enjoy doing things for my kids. I enjoy cooking her food. I enjoy presenting it to her. I adore it all, but sometimes I can’t. But I try. I try.”
