Cillian Murphy’s unfamiliar look has caused a stir online. Some others questioned whether it was the famous actor…

Last week admirers discovered Cillian Murphy, 48, with a new appearance that left them stunned. Strolling down a quiet street in Bath, Somerset, the silver screen legend seemed elderly, with gray hair and a beard.

The highly renowned actor was filming the Netflix adaptation of novelist Max Porter’s 2023 novella “Shy,” according to sources.

According to reports, the actor filmed his final scenes for the movie while wearing a black raincoat with a cozy-looking red cotton interior.

Cillian, who plays schoolteacher Tommy Shelby in the BBC crime thriller “Peaky Blinders,” is also producing the film under his own production firm, Big Things Films. According to reports, this project will establish Big Things Films in cooperation with Alan Mooney.

Cillian began early filming and production on May 24 and completed the last sequences in Bath on July 5, but subsequent photos of him have left fans perplexed.

“That’s him?” said a social media user who couldn’t identify the star in the photo.

Echoing the amazement, another X viewer said, “THIS IS WHAT I OPEN TWITTER TO???” “What a time to be alive.” Someone else simply wrote, in all capitals, “THE GREY HAIR.”

Others were unimpressed by Cillian’s strikingly changed looks and instead expressed their feelings about how he appeared. “Cillian Murphy with a beard again,” said one social media user.

Another individual said, “No beard, please!” One admirer expressed admiration for Cillian’s appearance, saying, “[Save] me, Cillian Murphy with a beard. Save me.”

Another netizen, however, pointed out that Cillian has portrayed a variety of parts that require him to summon fortitude and sail through difficult seas. On that topic, she wondered, “Will Cillian Murphy ever play a man who is actually happy and thriving?”

Cillian doesn’t appear to be planning on playing any happy-go-lucky characters just yet. The actor’s historical drama, “Small Things Like These,” which he produced and appeared in, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival’s opening night gala on February 15, aside from his next major role as an older headmaster in “Steve,” which he recently spotted filming.

Even before his previous and upcoming ventures, Cillian has played characters that struggle with dark ambitions, such as in “Peaky Blinders.”

Shelby, his character, is in charge of a school for boys with behavioral and sociological issues. Additionally, similar to his recent appearance in “Steve,” Cillian had to transform himself into Shelby for the criminal thriller series.

The skilled actor, noted for his piercing blue eyes and “androgynous features,” previously stated that he had to cut the hair on the sides of his head and leave it longer on top for the character of Shelby. “I was alarmed by the haircut, I have to admit, but I’m contractually obliged to have it,” Cillian Murphy said in a previous interview.

While he may have felt a particular way about the haircut, it did not show in his performance. In addition to “Peaky Blinders,” Cillian delivered a standout, award-winning performance in “Oppenheimer,” cementing his reputation as a versatile and capable performer. Cillian is more than simply an A-list artist; he is also a caring family man.

Aside from work, Cillian is married to Yvonne McGuinness, an artist. The pair, who met in Dublin, Ireland, in their twenties, married in 2004 and have two children, Aran and Malachy Murphy. Until 2015, Cillian’s family lived in Kilburn, north-west London, where the actor and his wife moved after meeting.

Cillian attributed his return to Ireland to a variety of circumstances. One of the reasons was that his 40th birthday was coming up. During his 20s and 30s in London, Cillian wondered if life had more to offer than the city. This sparked a drive for discovery and new opportunities.

The movie actor and Yvonne also wanted their boys to grow up near their grandparents and enjoy life by the sea. We wanted them to be Irish, I think. It’s astonishing how rapidly their accents have changed. Even after a year of returning, they’re dissolving into this rakish west Brit look,” Cillian explained.

He also quipped that he hoped his boys’ accent would attract a lot of females by the time they were 15. So, after 14 years in London, Cillian and Yvonne McGuinness returned to their homeland.

The actor, who claims it was the finest choice he and his wife ever made, stated that they persuaded the boys to accept the move with the promise of the Labrador they now have.

Cillian has seen in his boys a degree of confidence and self-assurance that he did not have at their age. The actor stated that his boys are “more sure of themselves. “I’m pleased with it. For me, it took a long time to realize that it’s okay to be yourself, to be an individual.”

The “Inception” star also referred to his youngsters as “really good boys,” with whom he enjoys laughing. He acknowledged that he and his boys do not have “Dad’s Movie Nights,” despite how much Malachy and Aran like some of his films. “They say all of my films are really intense,” he explained.

Cillian, the spokesman for an initiative pioneered by the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre at NUI Galway, has advocated for empathy to be taught in schools since he had boys.

He stated, “It seems quite practical and rational to foster empathy while raising guys. It all comes down to listening, and the best acting also requires listening. When you actively listen to someone, you may experience an emotional response.

Cillian also stated that social media lacks empathy, citing novelist George Saunders, who emphasized its gladiatorial aspect. Despite understanding its negative sides, the actor recognized social media’s inevitable presence in daily life.

The adoring father, who always tries to be there for his family, thanked them at the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Awards for “putting up” with him.

For this rare opportunity, I’d like to thank my family. I just wanted to thank you for putting up with me—the half me, the shadow me, the absent me, and the remnants of me when I’m working on a film like this or any other project. “You’re always there, and I love you for that,” stated Cillian.
