Coast Guard airmen rescue dog that fell from 300-foot cliff. Watch the breathtaking rescue!

A thrilling rescue operation resulted in a heartwarming reunion this week as Coast Guard airmen successfully saved a dog that had fallen from a cliff.

On New Year’s Day, a 3-year-old dog named Leo slipped off a 300-foot seaside cliff in Ecola State Park along the Oregon coast. CBS News reported that Leo had fallen after running away from his owners during a walk.

Firefighters from three local departments were on the scene, preparing to rappel down the cliff, when a team from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria arrived via an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter.

With rising tides adding urgency to the situation, the rescue team swiftly deployed a rescue swimmer with a hoisting basket onto the beach. They successfully reached Leo, securing him in the basket.

Video footage captured the intense moment of Leo’s rescue as he was lifted into the helicopter and transported back to the mainland:

This New Year’s Day incident provided a memorable start to the year, and the airmen expressed relief at the successful mission, sharing hugs and positive sentiments in the rescue footage.

Despite the dramatic circumstances, Leo emerged relatively unharmed and was joyfully reunited with his family. Leo spent the night at an emergency vet, receiving treatment for a few cuts and bruises. According to Leo’s owners, he is doing well, and they are immensely grateful for his survival and anticipated recovery.

We’re delighted that Leo is safe and sound, and we extend our gratitude to the Coast Guard airmen for their heroic efforts in saving the day!
