Coming to America actor passed away at 84

Actor John Amos died at the age of 84, his son revealed.

In the 1970s, Amos became famous for portraying his hardworking father, James Evans Sr., on the television sitcom Good Times. He then received outstanding praise for his performance in Kunta Kinte Roots, a 1977 miniseries on the horrors of slavery, which garnered him an Emmy nomination. In the 1988 film Coming to America, Amos starred with Eddie Murphy as Cleo McDowell. “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” his son Kelly Christopher Amos stated.

“He possessed a compassionate nature, radiating love across the globe.” Fans consider him to be their TV father. He led a lovely life. His legacy will live on through his incredible performances as an actor on television and in movies.” In an interview before his death, Amos said that Hollywood had made progress in terms of racism since the premiere of Roots over 45 years ago. “You’d have to question every black actor in Hollywood. Have we made any advances? “Yes, we have,” he informed Screen Rant. “Are we all the way there yet, with complete artistic, creative freedom? However, how many individuals, including white actors, have attained the same level of artistic and creative freedom? That is a really high perch. We’re close to finishing our work, but we still have a lot to do.”
