George Clooney remains captivated by his wife, Amal Clooney, a captivating and enigmatic woman who captured his heart and ended his bachelor status, despite facing harsh criticism from admirers.
“Everything about my wife is sort of magical, as I think everybody has come to realize as they see her and hear her and hear what she stands for,” Clooney shared with Entertainment Tonight in 2022. “There’s just not a downside to her.”
George Clooney is widely recognized for his versatile roles in both television and film.
Some may recall him as a young handyman in the popular sitcom The Facts of Life, which aired from 1979 to 1988. In recent years, he has portrayed leading characters in movies such as Ticket to Paradise, Ocean’s Eleven, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2022).
His most significant role, however, came when he met the remarkable Lebanese-British human rights attorney known as Amal Alamuddin in 2013. Just six months into their relationship, the couple’s romantic journey culminated in a proposal in 2014.
Recalling that moment, Clooney, now 61, humorously stated, “Literally, I dropped it on her, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh, my God,’ and ‘Wow!’ We just sat there, and finally I said, ‘Listen, I’m 52, and I’ve been on my knee now for about 28 minutes, so I have to get an answer out of this or I’m going to throw a hip out. I might not be able to stand back up!”
The couple exchanged vows in September 2014 at the luxurious Aman Canal Grande hotel in Venice, Italy, surrounded by a star-studded audience that included Bono, Matt Damon, and Bill Murray.
Amal was thrust into the limelight as soon as she began dating Clooney, making her vulnerable to relentless criticism from online trolls.
Among Amal’s many prominent clients are Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, and Yulia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister of Ukraine who advocated for her nation’s integration into the European Union. Amal, currently 45 years old, also spoke on behalf of the UN in 2019.
Despite her significant accomplishments, social media users often disparage her appearance, labeling her “ugly” and a “gawky gargoyle.”
In response to such criticism, one Twitter user wrote in January 2015, “I am completely baffled at the fact that when George Clooney finally decides to settle down he picks Amal Clooney, who looks like an ugly man.”

Nevertheless, George Clooney remains unabashedly enamored with his wife, praising her beauty, style, and remarkable accomplishments.
“She’s stunning and has a great sense of style — there’s no stylist or anything, she just comes out like that and she shows up and she looks stunning. And she does it while she’s got 11 cases going — literally. So she’s an amazing woman,” Clooney expressed.
With their twin daughters, Alexander and Ella, born in 2017, the couple enjoys spending time at their waterfront Villa Oleandra in Lake Como, where their love story first began.
“Every single day of my life, I just feel lucky,” Clooney shared in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Lucky in my career. Lucky enough to have found the perfect partner. Sometimes in life it doesn’t happen on your schedule, but you find the person that you were always supposed to be with. That’s how I feel, and I know that’s how Amal feels.”
