Dad saved his little daughter’s life by recalling a moment from his favorite television show

When the child unexpectedly stopped talking, the father became concerned and discovered her on the floor, dead. He was not taught what to do and did not complete first aid classes. Fortunately, he had seen enough TV programs.

You feel the series has the potential to save lives — and no, it is not about physicians. Matt Uber was at home that day, playing with Vera, his youngest of four children. They were having a good time, and the girl was laughing hysterically. The father glanced aside for a while, then realized he couldn’t hear his daughter’s laughter any more. He saw Vera collapse on the floor. The father yelled, but the girl remained still.

He rushed over to her to see whether she’d had a seizure. He saw his daughter’s lips turning blue but couldn’t feel her breathing. He yelled to his oldest daughter, Nora, now almost an adult, to call 911, and he proceeded to give the child an indirect heart massage and artificial breathing. Matt had no idea what to do or how to go about doing it. He was scared.

Never in his life did an average father of a family consider taking rescuer and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training courses. He remembers his efforts to rescue Vera being convulsive and panicked, but he was determined to assist the girl. Instead of the materials from the first aid course, which he did not attend, a scene from his favorite comedy, “The Office,” flashed into his mind.

After a thorough examination, doctors discovered that Vera had a cardiac arrest due to an incredibly rare genetic disease that causes arrhythmias in young people. Matt says that until now they believed that the girl was perfectly healthy — none of the doctors noticed her heart rhythm problems. When the father saw that Vera had fallen, he decided that she had just hit her head.

A pacemaker was installed in the hospital for the girl, and her parents bought and kept a first aid kit on hand in case of emergencies. And Matt plans to seriously undergo a course of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He hopes that his story will help people understand how important it is that, at the right moment, there is a person who knows what to do. And it’s better if he learns first aid from the series.
