At 79 years old, actor DeVito praised his ex-wife Perlman while on stage with the cast of the 2005 sitcom “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” During the presentation of the Outstanding Talk Series award, DeVito playfully commented on the show’s lack of Emmys, expressing support for Perlman’s accomplishments.

DeVito and Perlman married in 1982, having met in the early seventies. Despite announcing their separation in October 2012, the couple reconciled the following year. However, they eventually split for good in 2017. Despite their divorce, DeVito and Perlman, 75, have maintained a supportive relationship and remain good friends.
DeVito acknowledged Perlman’s achievements during her time on “Cheers” while sharing the stage with co-stars from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Onstage with Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, and Kaitlin Olson, the co-stars discussed the Emmy nominations, noting that DeVito’s show “Taxi” received 34 nominations in five years, while “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” received zero since its 2005 release. Shouting out his wife, DeVito said, “Rhea won four for Cheers.”

Despite their split, the couple has always remained in close contact and shares three children together: Lucy, Grace, and Jake DeVito. Perlman has spoken about their relationship, explaining that they are still married and have no plans to divorce. In an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Perlman added, “Danny and I have always loved each other, and we have three amazing children together. We really agree on almost everything important. You know, we were together for 40 years. 40 years is a long time. You might have to do something else!” When they initially separated, Perlman admitted that it was ‘very difficult’ at first but emphasized the decent understanding and relationship they eventually developed.
