Debra Winger, whose work in the 1980s will live on in our memories, is 67 years old and still looks stunning

In a traditional romance, Naval Officer Zack Mayo swept factory worker Paula into his arms and carried her away from her job, leaving everyone everywhere wishing they were the stunning Debra Winger.

The memorable scene from the romantic classic An Officer and a Gentleman, in which Richard Gere plays Officer Zack Mayo, the beautiful hero in navy whites, established the benchmark for daydreaming admirers.

When Debra Winger was put with Hollywood’s hottest men, she became the envy of many.

Winger, 67, is as beautiful as ever. Winger has been sharing photos of herself on Instagram for several years, first with brown hair and now with a natural wavy gray.

Winger’s breakthrough performance came in the 1976 film Slumber Party ’57, which led to a role in the hit TV series Wonder Woman (1979), where she played Drusilla, the younger sister of Lynda Carter’s Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Winger was asked to appear more regularly, but she declined out of concern about being typecast by the role.

That decision was made without hesitation; the early 1980s would be beneficial for the rising star.

At the height of her career, she received many Academy and Golden Globe nods for her roles in three classic 1980s films.

She co-starred in Urban Cowboy in 1980 with John Travolta, who was known at the time for his smooth dance moves in Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Grease (1988); as Paula in Officer and a Gentleman (1982); and as Emma in Terms of Endearment (1983), where she played Emma, a dying young woman with an overbearing mother, Aurora, played by Shirley MacLaine.

Despite her immense success, Winger took a mini-Hollywood sabbatical, reducing her acting schedule by hours, and the mystery of why she left lingers more than four decades later.

Most of these reports revolve around Winger’s feuds with her co-stars.

Though fans couldn’t get enough of Gere, it’s widely assumed that Winger was sick of him on set.

According to an excerpt from co-star Louis Gossett Jr.’s book “An Actor and a Gentleman,” which was broadcast on ABC News, “The onscreen chemistry between the two of them was terrific, but it was a different story once the camera was turned off.” They couldn’t have been more unlike.”

Gossett goes on to say that Winger believed Gere’s performance was “a brick wall” and that she previously described Gere as “a brick wall.” She also called the film’s director, Taylor Hackford, an “animal.”

It wasn’t simply the film’s characters who ruffled her feathers.

Winger, a free spirit in real life as well as Emma, battled with MacLaine, a gorgeous, eccentric, and seasoned veteran.

Their initial meeting established the foundation for their future connection.

“To see how my character would feel, I was wearing all of my leftover movie-star fur coats,” MacLaine told People. “There was Debra, wearing combat boots and a miniskirt.” “I thought to myself, ‘Oh my goodness.'”

“Indeed, the set became the source of Hollywood’s most relished rumors,” according to People. Winger insisted on first place. One slugged the other, according to accounts.”

When both ladies were nominated for best actress at the Oscars, they were placed against each other.

“I deserve this!” MacLaine stated that she accepted the award in her acceptance speech.

Regardless of the reports, Winger believes she “paused” her Hollywood career for personal rather than business reasons.

“I wasn’t interested in the parts that were coming.” That was something I’d done or felt before. It was necessary to push me. “My life challenged me more than the parts, so I threw myself into it wholeheartedly,” Winger said in an interview with People.

Winger took a six-year hiatus after co-starring with Billy Crystal in the 1995 romantic comedy Forget Paris.

She moved to New York City at the time and began dating actor Arliss Howard, whom she married in 1996. The couple’s son, Gideon Babe, was born in 1997, and she is the stepmother to Sam, Howard’s son from a previous marriage. She also has a biological child, Noah Hutton, whom she had from 1986 to 1990 with her first husband, Timothy Hutton.

Her husband, who also co-starred alongside Winger and Rosanna Arquette in the 2001 movie Big Bad Love, directed and produced her, and her next project was the 2002 film Searching for Debra Winger. Arquette’s documentary attempts to explain why Winger quit her profession at its height.

Winger gained notoriety with roles in Rachel Getting Married (2008), The Lovers (2017), and Kajillionaire (2020).

In 2021, she played Her Own in Volume 2 of the anthological drama film With/In, which was written and directed by her spouse, who also co-starred.

“I’m not sure what Hollywood is.” I’m now living beneath the freaking sign, and all I can do is laugh. “Los Angeles is a place, but the concept of Hollywood doesn’t really exist for me,” said Winger, who went on to say, “although there must be some in-crowds that I’m not aware of.”

We can’t imagine Hollywood without Debra Winger, and we hope she receives an Academy Award nomination soon! What are your favorite Winger films?
