Draymond Green is ejected after punching Jusuf Nurkic in the face for no reason

The NBA has imposed an indefinite suspension on Draymond Green after he struck Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić during Tuesday night’s game, leading to his third ejection of the season.

In a statement on Wednesday night, the NBA cited Green’s repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts as a factor in the decision. The league specified that Green must meet certain conditions before he can return to play.

Green, 33, is set to lose $153,941 per game if the suspension is under 20 games and $202,922 per game if it extends beyond 20 games, according to ESPN.

Following the incident, Green claimed he did not intend to hit Nurkić in the face, explaining that he was attempting to sell a foul. Despite the apology, Green, a four-time NBA champion, has gained a reputation as one of the league’s most physical players, with two previous suspensions this season.

In the prior month, Green received two suspensions – one for two technical fouls in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and another for an on-court altercation with Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert, where he put Gobert in a headlock and dragged him backward.

Green has faced disciplinary actions for physical altercations in recent years, including a suspension during the playoffs last year for stomping on Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis’ chest. Before the previous season, a video leaked showing Green sucker-punching teammate Jordan Poole during a practice argument.

Former teammates and league players expressed surprise at the indefinite length of Green’s suspension, with Kevin Durant stating concern for Green and hoping he gets the help he needs. Charles Barkley suggested that the NBA might require Green to undergo counseling before returning, similar to recent suspensions involving players like Ja Morant and Kyrie Irving. Barkley emphasized the need to address physical actions on the court, saying, “I like Draymond, but you can’t punch guys.”
