Lieutenant Brian Zach and his wife have formally adopted Kaila, a little girl he rescued from an abusive circumstance in 2018. The experience of comforting Kaila while waiting for investigators to take her to the hospital had a significant impact on Officer Zach. He informed his wife about Kaila and expressed a wish to establish a safe haven for her.

Kaila received many injuries as a result of mistreatment, and criminal charges were brought against her caregivers. When child protective authorities were unable to locate Kaila for quick placement, the Zachs stepped in and adopted her into their family. She rapidly became attached to them, referring to Brian as “dad” and his wife as “mom.”

In August, after almost 30 months of caring for Kaila, the Zachs formally adopted her. Kaila likes preschool, animals, dancing, and role-playing. She has made her new family’s lives richer and happier by being regarded as humorous and smart.
