A new lawsuit accuses Ellen DeGeneres of causing a 2023 crash in California.
According to court records obtained by PEOPLE, a lady claims that on October 16, 2023, the former talk show host, 67, disregarded a stop sign while driving in Santa Barbara County and “t-boned” her car. TMZ was the first to disclose on Friday, September 12.
PEOPLE did not obtain an immediate reaction from DeGeneres or the plaintiff’s attorneys.
The complaint asserts that stop signs in all directions control the intersection where the incident occurred.
The plaintiff says she stopped at her stop sign and “made sure there were no other vehicles” present before driving forward; nonetheless, DeGeneres reportedly “suddenly and without any warning” crashed into her vehicle and “t-boned” her, injuring the plaintiff.

“Ellen DeGeneres entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign,” according to the claim.
The lawsuit also accuses the comedian of “negligent conduct [that] fell below the standard of care of a reasonable person,” claiming that DeGeneres “negligently caused, or contributed to causing, plaintiff’s vehicle to be collided with by the defendants’ vehicle.”
Furthermore, the lady claims she has had “multiple serious personal injuries and damages” as a result.
The lady claims she has also lost wages, incurred hospital and medical bills, and experienced “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, and anxiety.”
She’s suing DeGeneres for general negligence and an unknown sum of compensatory damages.
