She is recovering from a stroke, according to her grandson Joe Kennedy III on Tuesday, October 8.
The widow of late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, 96, “suffered” the health scare on Thursday morning in her sleep, according to Joe in a statement on X (now Twitter).
Joe said, “We brought her to an area hospital, where she is now receiving treatment.” Joe said, “She is comfortable, receiving the best care possible, and surrounded by family.”
“As you may be aware, she is a strong lady with a life of remarkable fulfillment. “We are here to look after her.”

He begged followers to “keep her in your thoughts and prayers” while respecting their family’s privacy.
Joe stated that Ethel’s stroke occurred after a pleasant summer spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as eating lunch and dinner with family and visiting the pier.
“It has been a gift to all of us and to her as well,” Joe wrote to me.
In April, Ethel celebrated her 96th birthday surrounded by loved ones.
Joe uploaded images on X of Ethel smiling and posing with her son Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife Cheryl Hines.
“Happy 96th to the world’s most amazing Gramma!! 🎂,” Joe wrote beside the beautiful moment.
Ethel’s daughter, Kerry Kennedy, honored her with a video montage on X that featured Taylor Swift’s 2012 song “Starlight.”
“Today is my mom’s 96th birthday!” Kerry wrote. “In honor of her, I would like to invite you to listen to this exceptional song that @taylorswift13 composed about my parents.”
Ethel and Robert F. Kennedy married in 1950 and had eleven children, including Robert Jr. and Kerry. In 1968, during his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, he met his demise. At the time, Ethel was expecting their daughter Rory.
