Growing up in a secure and affectionate household is not a universal experience for many children. For those who lack this, the simple desire is often to find love somewhere. It is precisely this perspective that motivated Kevin and Dominique Gill to open their home to foster children.
Their lives took a transformative turn when they welcomed a 10-year-old boy whom no one else was willing to take in.
It wasn’t until a certain age that I even realized not every child had the privilege of parents who cherished them immensely.

Countless children worldwide lack the fortune of a warm and loving home. Andrew, a 12-year-old boy from Nashville, Tennessee, is intimately familiar with this reality.
In 2018, Dominique and Kevin Gill made the compassionate decision to become foster parents to Andrew, who was then ten years old.
Andrew had no contact with his biological parents, and his upbringing involved bouncing between temporary homes arranged by social services. Reports indicate that he spent about half of his young life in foster care.
Without a stable place to call home, Andrew became introverted, hesitating to open up to others. Many perceived him as emotionally distant, and social services labeled him as “troublesome” due to his quick temper. Despite these challenges, Dominique and Kevin were determined to provide him with security and love, believing in the transformative power of these elements in shaping good individuals.
Andrew temporarily joined the couple’s home in Nashville, where he would stay until social services found an adoptive family willing to take him in.

However, finding a family for Andrew proved to be a challenging task. No one wanted to adopt him, and foster care remained a temporary solution, much like in previous instances.
Speaking to WBIR Channel 10, Kevin and Dominique revealed that Andrew initially withdrew and avoided social interaction, preferring to spend his time alone in his room playing computer games. His anger and outbursts were frequent.
“During his first week with us, he sat in his room with the door closed, looking at old photos. He didn’t want to talk,” shared Andrew’s foster parents in an interview.
Despite the difficulties, Dominique, Kevin, and their biological children persisted, responding to Andrew’s challenges with unwavering love. Over time, Andrew began to realize and accept the genuine love extended to him.
Although there was initially no connection between Andrew and the couple’s biological son, their shared belief that everyone deserves a chance fostered a bond between them. The boys eventually became close friends, bonding over video games and shared experiences. The couple’s biological son also thrived alongside Andrew.
As social services prepared Andrew to move in with an adoptive family, the couple realized that Andrew had found security in their home for the first time in his life.
“After the second adoption fell through, I realized that God placed Andrew in our lives for a reason. God made sure the adoption didn’t work out so that he could come back to us,” revealed Dominique.

The couple approached Andrew with the proposition of becoming a permanent part of their family, to which he eagerly responded with a resounding ‘yes.’
Andrew was overjoyed when he learned, while walking in the park with Molly Parker from Youth Villages, that the Gills were officially adopting him.
“I just turned around the corner and saw everybody,” Andrew recalled. “They asked, ‘will you?’ and I said, ‘yeah!'”
Statistics show that there are more than 8,000 children in the Tennessee Foster System waiting for a permanent home. Thanks to the kindness and compassion of the Gills, one less child remains on that list.
“This is my brother, Joc,” declared Andrew. “This is my brother, Andrew,” echoed Joc.
Today, Andrew and Joc share an unbreakable bond, embodying the true essence of brothers. Kevin and Dominique never anticipated that Andrew would become their son—the one they had been waiting for—but fate clearly intended him to belong to the Gill family.
