Fortunately, his recollections helped him administer indirect cardiac massage and artificial breathing, and by the time the ambulance came, Vera’s heart had begun to beat once more.

Vera was found to have an undiagnosed, uncommon genetic disorder that causes arrhythmia after more testing.

After giving the situation some thought, Matt understood the need for the right first aid training and plans to take CPR classes.

Vera had a pacemaker inserted to treat her ailment, and the family now maintains a first aid kit on hand.
