During the pandemic, many people got sick with COVID-19 and lost their jobs. Thousands found themselves unemployed, relying on unemployment benefits or nothing at all. One mother, Hannah McGee from Fenton, Missouri, faced tough times.
After losing her job at a restaurant due to the pandemic, Hannah relied solely on unemployment benefits to support herself and her daughter. Struggling to pay bills, including rent, she fell behind on payments, owing her landlord $1,000. Instead of serving an eviction notice, the landlord took an extreme step – he removed her front door while she was out job hunting. This left her belongings exposed to the elements and vulnerable to theft.

Despite being on good terms with her landlord and always paying rent on time, Hannah’s job loss during the pandemic led to this drastic action. Now, she faces challenges celebrating Christmas without a front door and worries about the safety of her belongings and her health.
Currently, Hannah is trying to resolve the situation and get her life back on track while her child stays with her grandmother. Despite the difficulties, she tries to find humor in the situation and remains grateful that things aren’t worse.
