A fireman should make their community feel safe—not just by saving lives or putting out fires, but also by assuring citizens that everything will be alright after an event.
Firefighters regularly come into contact with individuals who have gone through a traumatic experience—an accident, or the loss of a home—and in those situations, excellent people skills and a strong, calming presence are essential.
This was the case with two firefighters, who proved that getting a manicure is maybe the most macho thing a man can do.

Chief Allen Hadley and Captain Kevin Lloyd of the North Davis Fire Department in Utah responded to an automobile accident. They came across a young child who was terrified but unharmed by the incident.
The firefighters attempted to cheer her up and assuage her fears. They saw she was holding two bottles of nail polish and started talking to her about it.
They even went so far as to volunteer to have her paint their nails!
It was a great and thoughtful present. These firemen certainly don’t have their nails done on a regular basis, but it gave the girl something to do to get her mind off the calamity.
And it worked perfectly.

“Within minutes, the child was calmly painting their nails and had forgotten about the accident she had just experienced,” North Davis Fire District reported on Facebook.
“Great job, Chief Hadley and Captain Lloyd, for providing awesome customer service to one of our young citizens.”
Commenters praised the firefighters’ thoughtful actions: “Tough enough to wear purple and not care,” one person said. “Amazing job!”
It’s amazing how a small, thoughtful interaction like that can genuinely make a difference and make someone happy.
Let us applaud these firefighters for going above and beyond! Spread the word about this fantastic story!
