Kate Middleton has become more religious as she battles cancer.
According to royal biographer Robert Hardman’s latest book, Charles III: New King, New Court, According to The Daily Mail, the Princess of Wales, 42, has grown “more interested” in her faith following her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy. Kate disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March.
“I would say that things are more hopeful there,” a church-going family friend tells Hardman in an excerpt from the modified edition.
Her spouse, Prince William, “is a modern young man,” according to people who know him well. The Daily Mail piece claims that certain aspects of ceremonial and religious practices embarrass him.
In contrast, Prince William’s father, King Charles III, declared his faith as “deeply rooted” in the Church of England when he became monarch, and he has been a global religious advocate for decades. Meanwhile, people recognized the late Queen Elizabeth for her unwavering Christian faith.
Hardman earlier stated in his book, which was published in January 2024, that the Prince of Wales, 42, might deviate from tradition and not hold the title of Supreme Governor of the Church of England when he ascends the throne. The title has been associated with British kings for centuries, going back to the 1530s with King Henry VIII.
“In royal circles, it is no secret that he does not share the King’s sense of the spiritual, let alone the late Queen’s unshakeable devotion to the Anglican church,” says Hardman.
“His father is quite spiritual and enjoys talking about spirituality, but the prince does not.” He does not attend church every Sunday, but neither does the vast majority of the country. Hardman quoted a top palace official as saying, “He might go at Christmas and Easter, but that’s it.”
According to the author, a royal insider stated, “[Prince William] very much respects the institutions, but he is not instinctively comfortable in a faith environment.”
The Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in a personal video statement in March. She described the diagnosis as a “huge shock” and stated that she and Prince William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
Kate stated in September that she had completed her chemotherapy. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she told reporters at the time.
