Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress whose breakout role in Bella touched hearts all over the country, has died.

Nyweide, 24, was discovered dead earlier this month, and now, in a devastating twist, it has been revealed that she was pregnant at the time of her death.

The once-rising celebrity was discovered unconscious on a riverbank near a high school in Bennington, Vermont, on April 14. Sophie was pronounced dead at the site, despite efforts by first responders to revive her.

According to her death certificate, she was pregnant.

Sophie originally rose to prominence in 2006, when she was five years old, and appeared in Bella, a New York City-set drama about how a single day can transform people’s lives.

Born on July 8, 2000, in Burlington, Vermont, she went on to star in Mammoth and Noah, establishing a strong Hollywood resume before quietly exiting the spotlight in 2015.

Thereafter, her once-bright path became darker.

An online obituary depicts a young woman suffering significant issues behind her creative brilliance.

“Sophie was a kind, trusting girl. Such qualities often left her vulnerable to being taken advantage of by others. She wrote and drew voraciously, and much of her art reflects her depth and the suffering she endured,” the statement continues.

“Many of her writings and artwork reflect her challenges and tragedies. Despite roadmaps, diagnoses, and her confessions, those closest to her, as well as therapists, law enforcement personnel, and others who sought to assist her, are saddened that their efforts were not enough to rescue her. She consistently asserted her ability to ‘manage it’ independently, leading her to decline potentially life-saving treatment.

“Sophie. A life terminated far too soon. Let it not be in vain. May we all learn from her limited time on Earth and do better. Yes, we all need to safeguard our children and do better.”

Nyweide’s mother, Shelly, also spoke with TMZ, confirming what many had suspected: her daughter was suffering from drug addiction.

“My knowledge is she was using drugs and was a tiny young woman,” she stated, adding that she died while with other individuals. “I didn’t know them.”

Her narrative is all too common among former child stars: early fame, discreet departures, personal troubles, and a horrible ending.

What makes this tragedy even more devastating is the fact that Sophie Nyweide was pregnant at the time of her death.

According to her death certificate, acquired by People and TMZ, the former child star was pregnant when she died. TMZ was the first to report the news.

While the paper did not specify how far along she was, a person familiar with the probe told People that Sophie “appeared to be in the early stages” of pregnancy.

Authorities have not ruled out foul play in Sophie Nyweide’s death. According to TMZ, a male was supposedly with Sophie when she died and is now collaborating with police. However, authorities have emphasized that they are not currently classifying him as a suspect or person of interest.

Shelly told TMZ that Sophie was never abused during her acting career, despite the widespread rumors that sometimes surround a young star’s fall from favor. “She was always safe on those sets,” Shelly stated, emphasizing that nothing during filming caused the former child star’s sorrow.

Shelly, plainly in grief, concluded her testimony with a passionate plea: “Please let her rest in peace now.”
