Gabrielle Union opens up about her household with her husband, and fans are surprised

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union maintain parity. In their relationship, parenting style, and even the way they manage their cash. Union claims that the pair divide household costs 50/50, and even so, she struggles to feel financially secure, but it’s something she’s “working on.”

Since 2014, the Bring It On star has been married to a retired NBA player. Wade brought three children from prior relationships into their marriage: 21-year-old son Zaire, 15-year-old daughter Zaya, and 9-year-old son Xavier, and the couple has since welcomed a fourth child, 4-year-old daughter Kaavia. Union recently spoke with the Black Millionaires podcast about how she and Wade handle their home finances.

“It’s weird to say I’m head of household because, in this household, we split everything 50/50,” Union acknowledged. “But in the other households that each of us has to support, there’s always this gorilla on your back saying, ‘You better work, b*tch, you better work.’ “Are you going to sleep in? You never know, someone might not eat.’ And it’s difficult.”

Union went on to say that she is still battling to overcome a “scarcity mindset” that she developed as a struggling actor in Hollywood. “I still struggle with that,” she admitted. “I think I just have more financial responsibilities.” I get nervous, like, ‘Oh God, that movie didn’t open. You know what that means?” Do I—Am I—”Will I have enough to keep everyone going?’ And everyone says, ‘It’s coming. ‘ Slow down.’ I’m attempting to find calm in the trip rather than utilizing my worry and scarcity thinking as my engine, which is difficult.”

Union’s revelation that she and Wade shared their costs may not have been significant to her, but it appears to have sparked controversy on the internet.

“Gabrielle Union stated that she has a 50/50 relationship with a man who is a part owner of an NBA team.” “The lights are on, but no one is home,” one Twitter user remarked. Another speculated that some individuals were internalizing Union’s predicament and comparing it to their own. “You do realize that multimillionaire Gabrielle Union splitting bills 50/50 with her multimillionaire husband Dwyane Wade is not the same as you, an hourly worker, splitting bills 50/50 with your hourly worker bd, bf, homey, lover, or friend, right?”

Union and Wade may split their expenses however they like, but it’s a shame that even after three decades in Hollywood, she still frets about financial security. Financial pain follows you, no matter who you are.
