Glynis Johns, 100, speaks up about her life and career…

Think back to 1938; do you recall what you were doing? No? I didn’t, since most of us weren’t living.

While we were waiting to be created, Glynis Johns was making her acting debut in the romance-drama film “South Riding.”

In the decades afterward, the actor has been in scores of films and television shows, including the 1964 version of “Mary Poppins,” in which she portrayed Mrs. Banks, as well as the Batman series and “Murder, She Wrote.”

She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the 1960 film “The Sundowners,” and she also received a Tony Award for her work in “A Little Night Music.”

Glynis celebrated her 100th birthday today (5 October), and she chatted with ABC 7 about her life and achievements.

She remarked about her time on “A Little Night Music.” “I got applause for that.” I had a great time doing that. “I sensed it.”

Her most recent credits were in the 1990s, when she co-starred with Sandra Bullock in “While You Were Sleeping,” before joining Molly Shannon in the 1999 movie “Superstar.”

Glynis revealed her thoughts on becoming 100 years old decades after she first appeared on TV; however, for her, it’s all just a part of life.

“It doesn’t make any difference to me,” she added. She went on to say, “Well, I looked very good for my age.”

When told that her work will always be available to admirers, Glynis replied, “What a lovely thought.” That’s exactly what I hoped.”

Glynis’ landmark birthday inspired her grandson, Thomas Forwood, to declare that his grandmother deserved to be recognized for her accomplishments by being made a Dame.

Forwood told MailOnline last week, “I am so delighted that my grandmother is set to celebrate this landmark birthday, and we wish her many congratulations.”

“Glynis had a fantastic career spanning many decades, demonstrating her immense talent and versatility in a variety of roles on screen and stage.”

“Almost everyone will have seen her work and will be familiar with her face and voice—she’s in so many beloved pieces.”

“Everyone in the family is extremely proud of her accomplishments.”

“It would be fitting on this occasion for the UK government to formally acknowledge her cultural contribution by making her a Dame.”

Glynis, who now resides at a retirement facility in Beverly Hills, got a torrent of birthday greetings from well-wishers today.
