Goldie Hawn has a message about mental health

On October 10, the 77-year-old actress expressed her thoughts on the value of self-care in an Instagram post.

“It’s World Mental Health Day, and as we all know, we’ve had so many challenges in terms of our mental health,” Hawn says in the film, which takes place in a garden.

“This time is actually challenging for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons,” she added. “But I would say that it’s important to take care of ourselves; it’s important to recognize when we feel anxious or when we realize that life isn’t very good.”

Hawn also encouraged viewers to take a “time out” to participate in things that bring them “joy and prayer.” She explained that anytime she feels overwhelmed, she takes a deep breath and thinks about all the things she’s thankful for, adding, “There’s a heck of a lot of them.”

She went on to say that this type of self-care is not only deserved but also “essential.”

“It doesn’t matter what world you live in,” Hawn said emphatically. “How you feel about yourself is important. And what you give to others, as well as what others give to you.”

Fans expressed their gratitude.

“Sometimes we just need to hear that it’s ok. Thank you!” commented one reader.

“I’ve cried in my car in a parking lot every day for a few weeks,” commented another. Mental wellness is critical! Thank you for raising awareness.”

The actress has long been an advocate for mental health awareness. In response to rising concern over the status of children’s mental health, Hawn established the Goldie Hawn Foundation and MindUp, a nonprofit organization, in 2003. The organization was founded to provide children with tools to help them manage their emotions, build resilience, and understand how their brain works, moving them from despair to a more positive mentality.

In her 2011 book, 10 Mindful Minutes, she also discussed mental health, highlighting the importance of social and emotional skills in leading a better, healthier life.

Hawn, who has two children from her second marriage to Bill Hudson, has been in a four-decade relationship with actor Kurt Russell, with whom she has a son, Wyatt Hudson, 37.
