Granny proves all: you’re never too old to dance. VIDEO

When you think of most octogenarians, you probably think of them as “hip replacement-prone” rather than “hip.” But you haven’t yet met Jean Hupp. Jean, 87, resides at an assisted living complex in Decatur, Illinois, with her husband, Paul. Jean was captured on tape executing “The Electric Slide” in her own unique style during a birthday party in the facility’s ballroom!

The video has since gone viral, and Jean is overjoyed with her newfound celebrity on the internet. Marcia Griffiths’ song “The Electric Slide” is a popular choice for weddings, parties, and other social occasions. The dance itself is comparable to a line dance, with simple, low-key choreography and easy-to-learn footwork.

At least, that’s how other people do it. But, like Jean, you simply boogie down and do your thing! Sarah Butts, a resident service coordinator at Eagle Ridge of Decatur, where Jean resides, claims that she is not surprised by her dance abilities. “Mrs. Hupp enjoys dancing and has done so her entire life,” Sarah said.

Jean and Paul have been residents for three years, and Sarah adds that Jean is always the first in line for a party or function. “This is exactly Jean; she’s the life and soul of the party.” She feels that keeping her body and mind busy will keep her youthful. We were all overjoyed to see her and the other residents enjoying themselves.

It’s incredibly satisfying.” Jean has no intention of slowing down! We like how she avoids traditional dancing moves and instead does her own thing. What a beautiful metaphor for living an independent and joyous life! Jean’s confidence and passion can teach us all a lot, no matter where we are in life. Jean waves a tail feather in the video below, and be sure to share it with someone you know who is also youthful in heart!
