Gwyneth Paltrow explains why she ended her relationship with Brad Pitt

Gwyneth Paltrow has been the topic of Hollywood attention recently, following her highly publicized ski crash trial. Following a recent podcast appearance, the actor has piqued fans’ interest once more by discussing her affair with another Hollywood star, Brad Pitt.

During an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Tuesday, May 2, the Oscar winner discussed her romance with ex-fiancé Pitt, which lasted from 1994 to 1997, stating that it was “big, huge love at first sight” when the two met on the set of Se7en.

Meanwhile, Paltrow remembered how Pitt proposed to her after two years of dating in December 1996. “We were on the balcony of this home we were renting in this tiny hamlet in Argentina one night,” the actor revealed. “I wish I could remember precisely what he said, but he proposed, and I was overjoyed.” We had discussed it, but I recall being astonished at the time. I was about 24.”

According to People, the former couple called off their engagement six months after Pitt proposed. Paltrow told Call Her Daddy presenter Alex Cooper that she ended the relationship because she “had a lot of growth to do.” “When I look back, I was a youngster, more than most 22- to 24-year-olds I meet now,” the actor said. “I had never truly investigated who I was, what was important to me, or what my boundaries were.”

Despite calling off the engagement, Paltrow said she was “totally heartbroken” by the breakup. “It was the correct thing to do at the moment, but it was incredibly difficult,” she continued. “He was nine years older than me, so he was far more… He understood what he wanted and was ready to go, whereas I was all over the place.”

In 2023, Paltrow will be married to her now-husband, producer Brad Falchuk. The couple originally met in 2010 during the actor’s guest appearance on Glee, and they started dating in 2014, following Paltrow’s divorce from her ex-husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The pair married in a star-studded event in the Hamptons in 2018.
