Harrison Butker’s recent graduation speech has received significant criticism and numerous comments from the public. Among them was Whoopi Goldberg, and here is how she responded

Harrison Butker, a kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, has drawn a lot of criticism for his recent commencement address, which disparaged everything from abortion to women who work outside the house.

However, he has an odd ally in Whoopi Goldberg, who spoke up for Butker during Thursday’s “The View” episode.

Butker criticized Joe Biden’s support for abortion rights during Saturday’s commencement at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, and asserted that a woman’s life doesn’t truly begin until she marries and has children.

Although Butker’s remarks sparked social media backlash and an NFL reprimand, Goldberg defended his freedom to say those things to her fellow “View” co-hosts on Thursday.

Goldberg remarked, “Listen, I like when people say what they need to say.” He attends a Catholic university and is a devout Catholic. He is free to hold these views; they are his convictions. I’m under no obligation to trust them. I am under no obligation to accept them. The women in that audience do not need to accept them.

Butker brought up former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who the league shunned for kneeling during the playing of the national anthem.

“We want to respect people whose ideas are different from ours, just as we want to represent,” said Goldberg.

Butker had the right to his opinions, but Goldberg did not require others to share them.

Additionally, the women seated there will be content if they follow his advice. Not doing so will make them happier, Goldberg said.
