Stuffed animals are concealed for anyone with an adventurous spirit to uncover, and this pleasant experience, according to Andie Lunkenheimer, a loyal client, is a win-win scenario. “While adults shop, kids embark on an adventure,” she goes on to remark.
This low-key hide-and-seek game with all the children who come in is absolutely wonderful. Any child who discovers the stuffed animal receives a unique gift, such as a lollipop.
This is a wonderful concept since anyone who has had to take their children shopping knows how difficult it is to keep them calm and obey.
By mixing the necessary aspect of shopping with a dose of fun and excitement for the kids, regular errands become a memorable event for the entire family.
“Now, I cannot say that there is one in every single store, but in general, stores typically have one,” said Kendra Friend-Daniel, Trader Joe’s public relations director.
“It’s a way for us to interact with children in our store.” If they find the concealed stuffed toy, they just notify a crew member and earn a gift. The sort of plush animal and gift may differ from shop to store, but at my local Trader Joe’s, there’s a hidden penguin, and when my girls find it, they get a lollipop.”
This isn’t the first time the stores have done anything like this. This year, a video of a customer explaining everything you need to know about this game went viral, and many assumed that this ‘toy-hunting’ thing was just a rumor, but in fact, this practice of hiding stuffed animals around the place has been around for over a decade, and clearly, both kids and parents can’t get enough.
“If you’ve ever been to a Trader Joe’s before, you know their employees are extremely friendly, and they’ve got a lot of healthy products that you just can’t find in other stores,” says TikTok user timbosliceoflife12 in the video. “And hidden within these healthy products, you may find a random stuffed animal,” he went on to say.
From towering eagles, gentle whales, and playful bears to lovely ducks, intriguing turtles, and even elusive lobsters, the creatures differ by place.
However, not every Trader Joe’s shop participates in this game, so when you visit one, simply ask the personnel whether there are any hidden animals in their store.
