Do you know why there are slits in the neck of a bottle of vegetable oil?

For so many years, I’ve used vegetable oil and only recently learned the purpose of those slits in the bottle. Live and learn!

Have you ever wondered why there are these slits in the neck of a bottle of sunflower oil?

This question has been bothering me for quite some time, especially when it inconveniences me. There are times when I need to pour back unused oil into the bottle, and that’s when the problems start. In the end, the bottle, the area around it, and even myself have to be cleaned up.

Previously, I thought these slits were there to help pour the oil out slowly. Although they don’t really contribute much to that. Surely they must serve some function, right?

Recently, I found out why these slits are needed. They are designed for a spout, which is sold separately from the oil. Of course, I would have never guessed it myself. My daughter enlightened me about this. After that, I also bought one for myself.

The spout easily inserts and fits into the neck of the bottle. Such a spout is a very convenient device. When you pour oil into the bottle, nothing spills or drips, and so on.

Before, to prevent spilling oil, I came up with many different makeshift solutions. Once, I even put hair ties on the neck of the bottle to absorb the dripping oil. It helped, but only temporarily.

With the spout, the entire process is quick and simple. It brings to mind the proverb: “Live and learn!”
