When Cathy notices her son, Alex, sporting new headphones and clothes she didn’t buy, she’s puzzled. This leads her to follow him one day to figure out where he’s getting them from. When she discovers the source, it brings her back to her past.
“I just noticed you have new headphones. Where did you get them from?” Cathy asked Alex while making breakfast.
“From Dad,” he replied, yelling.
“And the clothes?” she inquired.

“Um,” he mumbled. It made sense; Cathy and her ex-husband, Ian, often spoiled Alex with gifts, making it hard to keep track. Ian was a practical man who didn’t believe in splurging on name brands, unlike Cathy, who tended to overspend.
Cathy voiced her doubts to Ian over the phone, but he was clueless too. Maybe he found a side gig or something. But Alex was only fourteen; it wasn’t like he could earn enough from a part-time job.
“I’ll ask him. We’ll get to the bottom of this,” reassured Ian.
As a mother, Cathy didn’t want to micromanage her son’s decisions, but nothing made sense. Alex couldn’t afford these things on his own.

Later that night, Cathy overheard Alex talking on the phone in a whispery voice. When he mentioned going to his friend Jeremy’s house to work on a project, Cathy decided to follow him to find out what was going on.
As she trailed him, Cathy saw Alex getting into a car with a blonde woman. When she got closer, she realized it was Lia, her long-lost sister who had disappeared years ago. Lia, who had been missing since her teenage years, was now deeply involved in Alex’s life.

Cathy confronted Lia and Alex in the car, demanding answers. Lia explained that she had contacted Alex after finding him on Facebook, hoping to repair their relationship.
Overwhelmed by emotions, Cathy broke down. After all these years, Lia couldn’t just waltz back into their lives and involve Alex in her attempts to make amends.
Lia acknowledged her mistakes and expressed her desire to reconcile, but Cathy remained skeptical. However, seeing how Alex looked at Lia with love and tenderness made her reconsider.

Realizing that Lia had been there for Alex during his struggles with their divorce, Cathy softened. She asked Alex to invite Lia over, and they spent hours reconnecting over cheesecake and conversations.
Despite her lingering resentment towards Lia, Cathy was grateful for her support in Alex’s life. Eventually, they were able to mend their familial bonds, with even Cathy’s parents forgiving Lia. It seemed like they were all on the path to healing.
