Many people know that ginger root is very beneficial for the immune system. That’s why I try to get it, at least occasionally. It’s good that it’s always available.
A month and a half ago, while rummaging through a box of ginger, I came across a root with swollen buds. The thought crossed my mind that such a specimen had a good chance of sprouting. I liked the idea, so I put it in my basket.

I was excited by the thought that this time, I didn’t have to grow a plant from a seed and wait for it to grow. Everything could happen much sooner since the root system was already there; it just needed to be awakened properly.
I placed the ginger root in a spacious pot and covered it with soil, leaving the top part of the root exposed. For some reason, I thought this would make it easier for the shoots to start growing.

More than a week passed, but there were no visible changes. The old buds remained dormant, and new ones did not appear.

I didn’t understand why the ginger wasn’t growing. It seemed like a live root in a favorable environment. Clearly, something was missing.

So, I covered it entirely with soil and continued watering it daily, hoping to wake it up.

About a week later, the first shoot appeared! Hooray, it woke up!

Soon, a second shoot appeared, and the first one was already 10 cm long. Each day, the stems grew longer and thicker. The first leaves began to appear.

They grew so quickly that 12 days later, the first shoot was already 65 cm tall, and the leaves were up to 3 cm wide.

If it keeps growing like this, I’ll have to take it to the country and find a place to plant it.

Besides its beneficial properties, this plant is known for its beauty. In autumn, mature bushes produce a large red bud that exudes a specific juice with a pleasant smell and antiseptic properties.

The flower is very resilient and can stay fresh in a vase for several weeks without wilting. Such a plant is available in almost any grocery store.

If my ginger ever blooms, I will definitely write a separate article about it.
