If you discover these intimidating insects in your home, here’s what it signifies…

While encountering household bugs is a common occurrence throughout the year, there are certain creepy crawlies that most of us would prefer to live without.

For those residing in rural areas, it’s no surprise to find flies, ants, spiders, and other insects attempting to make themselves at home, particularly during the warmer months.

While some people are unfazed by these annual bug invasions, others are less tolerant. Personally, I can tolerate spiders weaving their webs in corners, and the occasional fly buzzing around the kitchen doesn’t bother me too much.

Chances are, you’ve come across an earwig in your home at some point, even if you didn’t realize it. Despite their unappealing appearance, earwigs are harmless creatures, despite their menacing look.

However, many people are averse to having a swarm of earwigs roaming their homes, myself included. That’s why I found a particular method for dealing with them quite useful.

A Facebook user named Alicia Alexander shared a simple yet effective hack for getting rid of earwigs. She suggests filling a shallow bowl with half a cup of olive oil and placing it in your backyard or on your deck. Apparently, earwigs are attracted to the sweetness of the olive oil but are unable to climb out once they fall in.

Alicia’s method seems to have worked wonders, as evidenced by the photo she shared showing the number of earwigs she trapped in less than 24 hours.

However, while earwigs seeking refuge indoors is common and usually harmless, a significant presence of them could indicate issues with rotting wood in your home. Earwigs are attracted to decaying wood, so it’s a good idea to inspect any wooden structures you have.

Overall, while encountering earwigs indoors may be unsettling, it’s typically nothing to be overly concerned about.
