In 1984, Lucille Ball and Richard Simmons collaborated to develop the ideal charades game show

Few celebrities are as universally beloved as Lucille Ball and Richard Simmons. Each was a distinct individual with an infectious sense of humor that brightened every space they entered. So it’s no surprise that when they appeared on a live game show over 40 years ago, they dominated.

The game show in question was Body Language, in which one competitor used charades to transmit a list of phrases, while a celebrity guest attempted to accurately guess as many of those words as possible in under 60 seconds. Simmons and Ball competed in this show, which aired the day after Christmas 1984, alongside Isabel Sanford from The Jeffersons and Broadway star Robert Morse.

The truly wonderful moment occurred when Simmons was in charge of acting out hints, and Ball was the guesser. In the footage below, Simmons informs Ball, “I’ve seen you on television…I can’t believe I’m sitting here…doing these things” before starting the round.

Immediately, you can see how their strengths—Simmons’ unwavering aggression and Ball’s sharp humor—play wonderfully together as they quickly accumulate seven correct predictions, earning $900.
