In just a few seconds, a doctor demonstrates a straightforward test to determine your level of dehydration, which is very important for your health

You’ve heard the cliché: drink six to eight glasses of water every day to be healthy.

However, it turns out that you can quickly determine your level of hydration at home.

In principle, you could stop tracking how many glasses of water you drink each day and instead perform this test a few times per day, though we don’t suggest it.

According to the NHS, water is the better and less expensive way to stay hydrated, while several other beverages and meals can also aid in fluid consumption.

If you do not drink enough fluids, you will become dehydrated.

The idea is to drink enough fluid during the day so that your urine turns pale yellow, and the NHS Eatwell Guide suggests that adults drink six to eight glasses of fluid each day (approximately 1.2 liters). There are no surprises there.

In addition to water, low-fat milk and sugar-free beverages such as tea and coffee contribute to your consumption.

It is also vital to drink extra fluids if you are pregnant, in a hot environment, have exercised for a long time, or are unwell.

However, health expert Dr. Myro Figura showed his 812,000 TikTok followers a straightforward method to determine your level of hydration.

He claims that hospitals use the Turgor pinch test, a straightforward, painless procedure.

Dr. Figura continues, “You can measure your body’s fluid levels by squeezing your skin and observing if it slides straight down.”

He explained to me that dehydration causes your extracellular space to contract, which lowers the elasticity of your skin.

“So when you pinch your skin like this, it’ll stay up if you’re dehydrated.”

He did, however, warn out that the video he was narrating over was carrying out the test wrong, since it should be done on the back of your hand rather than your finger.

So, what happens if your skin remains elevated for an extended time?

The obvious solution is to refill your bottle and drink more, but the following symptoms may indicate dehydration.

Feeling thirsty.
The urine has a strong odor and is dark yellow in color.
Peeing less than usual.
A dizzy or lightheaded sensation.
Tiredness
Sunken eyes.
Dry mouth, lips, and tongue.
If you do not stay hydrated for an extended length of time, you may get urinary tract infections, kidney stones, or kidney failure.

Consult a pharmacist if you are having problems retaining fluids due to illness.
